Wood speaks of the shapes within and finding another suited for this style of pipe rest with the unbelievable graining that this one presents is highly unlikely. This piece is unique in so many ways.
The shape presented in the unworked wood too closely resembled a cresting wave in a Japanese drawing to be ignored. The smoothed down ridges in the trough of the wave remind one of lines of foam, while the eyes in the burl form a perfect foamy edge.
This rest is suited for medium to large pipes, though not the mega-bowled. The lighter wood helps to make the pipe’s features stand out.
A beautiful piece to hold a beautiful pipe!
