The high price on this tamp is a function of the rarity of the wood involved.
Ancient kauri is wood that has been lying in a bog in New Zealand for 30,000 to 50,000 years! The wood is perfectly preserved but has absorbed some minerals, so that, when polished, there’s a bit of irridescence to the wood that doesn’t show up well in photographs. Obviously, the amount of wood is limited and I consider myself lucky to have acquired what I have!
