Although frequently mistaken for sea serpents, who are mean and nasty, sea slurpents are friendly and playful and have been known to rescue stranded sailors, race circles around sailboats and snag the odd beachball for play.
Slurp is a baby sea slurpent separated from his family during a violent storm. Slurp wandered the New England coast asking all everyone and everything he met whether they knew where his family was, but had no luck. He met all kinds of creatures from whales to giant clams to otters to supposedly mythical beings like mermaids and water sprites, but none of them even knew that his kind existed! Eventually, he wandered up the St. Lawrence Seaway, got lost in the Great Lakes and was found along the shores of Lake Michigan
Like most youngsters, he has a bit of a sweet tooth, particularly for ice cream (strawberry is his favorite, although rocky road runs a close second) and chocolate chip cookies. He becomes a bit hyperactive after eating sweets. His favorite way to get rid of extra energy is to play water games in a full bathtub—the kind of games that result in big splashes, water everywhere and a mess to clean up. When caught, Slurp just grins, looks innocent and really doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about, so it’s best to simply restrict his diet to the seaweed and greens he eats in his native environment.
